Senior Director of Knowledge Platforms and Engineering at Avalara Inc., with over four decades of experience at the intersection of content and technology. A pioneer in structured content, Michael spent 38 years of his 45-year career at IBM, where he led the development of groundbreaking content management systems and co-founded the team that created the DITA standard. With dual expertise in content strategy and systems engineering, he helped shape the early foundations of structured content in the 80s and 90s and drove some of the industry’s first scalable content platforms. Today, Michael is at the forefront of integrating AI into the content lifecycle, leading the design of advanced agentive systems that automate and elevate technical content creation.
